Mother Goods
The Gay Blood Collection

For nearly 40 years, up until May of 2023, the FDA had banned sexually active gay men from donating blood in America. These guidelines were antiquated and discriminatory — so we took blood the FDA banned and did something about it.

We partnered up with pigment artist Stuart Semple to create inks and paints made from the blood of gay Mother employees. Then we made them into tools for protest, and partnered with artists and activists across the country to fight to reverse the FDA’s policy with letters to representatives, screen printed shirts, and painted works of art.

All profits from the sold-out collection, totaling nearly $60,000, went to Callen-Lorde — a NYC based leader in LGBTQ+ healthcare.
